H.K. Cockin was a poet and journalist. He came to Canada in 1877. He was for a time associate editor of the Week in Toronto; and later joined the staff of the Guelph Mercury, to which he contributed a weekly column, under the pen-name of "The Blacksmith." He died at Guelph, Ont. on June 22, 1917.
